Great Scott! It's time to travel through the years!

Every year on 21st October, we celebrate Back to the Future Day, inspired by the much-loved film trilogy starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. The date marks the day in 2015 that Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled to in Back to the Future Part II.

This week's activities take us on a journey through the past, present and future, exploring the fascinating idea of time travel and the many ways our world has changed over the years.

We'll discover some interesting facts about time travel, revisit favourite television programmes and films in our Time Travel TV and Movie Quizzes, and take a nostalgic trip back to 1976, comparing everyday life 50 years ago with life in 2026. How much has changed, and are all those changes necessarily for the better?

There are plenty of opportunities for reminiscence and conversation. If you could travel back in time, where would you go? Which moments in your life would you love to experience again? And what do you imagine the world might look like 50 years from now?

For our practical activity, we'll be making a time capsule, collecting photographs, memories and little keepsakes that tell the story of life today, ready for someone to discover in the future.

And, of course, no time-travelling adventure would be complete without some great music! Our songs include Cher's If I Could Turn Back Time, Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time, Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle and Huey Lewis and the News' The Power of Love, famously featured in Back to the Future.

So, fasten your seatbelts, set your clocks and prepare for a journey down memory lane. You won't need a DeLorean or 1.21 gigawatts of electricity - just your memories, imagination and a willingness to have some fun!
