Life in the Slow Lane – Slow Down, You Move Too Fast!

When was the last time you put your feet up, took a deep breath and simply watched the world go by? International Sloth Day is the perfect opportunity to slow down, relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures!

Sloths are fascinating creatures, famous for their leisurely lifestyle, spending much of their lives hanging upside down in the rainforests of Central and South America. But perhaps these remarkable animals have something to teach us about taking our time and not rushing through life.

In today's dementia-friendly activities, we'll discover some surprising facts about sloths, identify some of the world's slowest animals, remember our favourite laid-back television and film characters, and revisit the famous fable of The Hare and the Tortoise.

We'll also complete some familiar sayings about time and patience, reminisce about the lost art of doing nothing, and share memories of how we used to relax before life became quite so hectic.

For our practical activity, we're encouraging everyone to enjoy a little R&R – Rest and Relaxation, accompanied by some beautiful, calming classical music.

And for Simon's Song of the Day, what could be more appropriate than Simon & Garfunkel's The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), with its unforgettable opening line, “Slow down, you move too fast.”

So make yourself comfortable, put the kettle on and join us for some gentle, entertaining activities. There's absolutely no hurry!
