Celebrate Black History Month with a welcoming mix of history, music, memories and conversation. This activities page recognises the achievements of Black people and the many ways they have enriched our lives and communities.

Enjoy quizzes celebrating Black heroes and heroines, explore the sounds of Motown and reggae, and remember favourite songs by artists and groups, including Michael Jackson and the Jacksons. Our Song of the Day, “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye, offers a chance to reflect on its message of compassion and understanding.

There are also opportunities to share personal experiences, celebrate friendships and discuss racism, respect and how we can help create a more equal society. Everyone is welcome to contribute, listen or simply enjoy taking part.

Designed for people living with mild to moderate dementia and those supporting them, these activities can be adapted to suit your group’s interests and abilities. Take your time, offer gentle prompts and celebrate every contribution.

Boosting brain power together to benefit quality of life.
