The War of the Worlds – The Broadcast That Frightened America!
30 October 1938 – Anniversary Special
On 30 October 1938, a young Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre company broadcast a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells’ science-fiction classic The War of the Worlds. Presented as a series of dramatic news bulletins describing a Martian invasion, the programme became one of the most famous broadcasts in radio history.
Some listeners mistook the fictional reports for real news, although the extent of the resulting panic has often been exaggerated. Nevertheless, the broadcast demonstrated the extraordinary power of radio and the imagination.
To mark its 88th anniversary, Simon’s Dementia Activities takes us on a journey into the fascinating world of Martians, aliens, flying saucers and science fiction.
Our activities include:
The War of the Worlds – Discover the story behind the notorious radio broadcast and its lasting legacy.

So, are we really alone in the universe?
Boosting brain power together to benefit quality of life.
